Are you bored in this lockdown caused by the biggest epidemic COVID-19 ? If yes, then here i am with 4 interesting DIY jobs that you can do in these lockdown days. These DIY are really interesting and also very helpful in your everyday lives that you can also continue to make them after this lockdown.
Some easy DIY that you can try are :
1. Mosquito repellent refill :
Almost in every home there is a mosquito repellent machine. But the problem is the refills of that machine runs out quickly. And we have to purchase another refills again and again from the market.
Due to this lockdown, most of the shops are closed and it is quite difficult to find a mosquito repellent refill. Also, the refills or sprays that we purchase from the market are chemical based that can affect mosquitoes as well as human beings also by causing breathing problems, they affect most to the old age people and children. So i am gonna tell you how to make chemical free mosquito repellent refill that can only affect mosquitoes with the help of only 3 things :
INGREDIENTS -
A) Empty refill bottle
B) 4-5 camphor (kapur tikki)
C) 40-50 millilitres neem oil
PROCESS -
First, grind all the camphor gently until you get a powdered form. Then add neem oil to it and mix it well. And then add it to the refill bottle. That's it! Your chemical free mosquito repellent refill is ready to use.
Neem oil and camphor both are very good for our health. Neem oil is also used for treating fungal infections. You can use this refill with any type of mosquito repellent machines.
2. Hand Sanitizer :
It is important for us to always keep our hands germ free, as touching infected hands to our face is unsafe. Although, when it comes to stop the spread of infectious disease like corona virus, washing our hands several times is must. And due the rapid spread of corona virus most of the retailers are also running out of stock for the hand sanitizers. The sanitizers that are available in the market are made of alcohol but i will tell you how to make hand sanitizer without any alcohol :
INGREDIENTS :
A) 30-40 neem leaves
B) 10-12 tulsi leaves
C) 1 litre water
D) 1 camphor (kapur tikki)
E) Small piece of Alum (Phitkari/Fitkari)
F) Any type of small bottle
PROCESS :
First add neem leaves and tulsi leaves together into a utensil, then add about 1 litre of water which will be approx 3 and a half glass of water. Boil the leaves at high flame for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the water gets equal to 1 glass. While the water is boiling, grind the camphor and alum until you get a powdered form. Then filter the neem and tulsi leaves with the help of a strainer and separate the water into a different bowl. Then add the powder of alum and camphor to water. Cover the water with a lid for approx 5-10 minutes because camphor can disappear or flies in the air. After 5-10 minutes the camphor can settle down into the water. Then keep the water to cool and finally store it into a bottle.
Alum helps in purifying the water, neem and tusli leaves are anti-bacterial and can helps in taking out the impurities from the skin. Camphor adds a good smell to the sanitizer and it is also good for our skin. This hand sanitizer is pure and chemical free and works 100% in sanitizing our hands or making our hands germ free.
3. Vaseline based lip balm :
Are you bored of that transparent lip balm or Vaseline ? Then make it a colored lip balm which can make your lips more attractive.
INGREDIENTS :
A) Vaseline/ Petroleum jelly
B) 1 Beetroot/ Orange food color
C) Essential oil (Neem oil/ Almond oil/Teatree oil) [Optional]
D) Shimmer [Optional]
PROCESS :
Take some amount of vaseline according to how much lip balm you are making. Sqeeze little amount of beetroot into it until it gets dark pink/pink or red in color(depending upon the color you want). If you want a darker color then you can add more beetroot juice into vaseline. Mix the beetroot juice and vaseline well until the juice completely dissolves into vaseline. If you want orange colored lip balm then you can add orange food color into it. If the food color doesn't dissolve completely in vaseline, then you can also heat the vaseline in a pan to form a liquid vaseline and then add the food color, mix them well and store into air tight container before it is completely cool down or in a lukewarm form. You can also add small amount of any colored lipstick to make it a color of your choice. But here i am suggesting to add beetroot juice or food color because they are natural ingredients and are good for your lips. Add almond oil or neem oil into it for making the lips more softer. You can also skip this step. Then add shimmer or glitter used in the makeup products to add a sparkle or shine in your lip balm. This step is also optional. Your homemade colored lip balm is ready to use.
Adding beetroot juice to vaseline is very beneficial for your lips. If you use this lip balm regularly (adding beetroot juice into vaseline) then after some weeks your lips can get a natural pink color. It is very beneficial for the people having darker colored lips.
4. Detergent powder :
These days everyone is looking to save money. Detergent powders in the market are getting very expensive day by day. So i am going to tell you how to make a detergent powder with some basic things that are available at home which will not only save you money but also help you to avoid toxic chemicals and harmful scents that are available in the market.
INGREDIENTS :
A) 2-4 bar soaps.
B) Baking soda.
C) Washing soda. (You can also turn baking soda into washing soda by baking it in oven at 400° celcius or 200° farenheit for about 1 hour. You can also over bake it. Remember to spread the baking soda completely into a plate or dish while baking. After baked, store it into a container with lid so that it cannot take the moisture present in the air. It is ready to use as a washing soda.)
D) 10-12 drops of essential oil.
E) White vinegar. [Optional]
F) Dust mask. [For safety]
G) Protective gloves. [For safety]
PROCESS :
First wear your mask and gloves for protection as the dust particles of soap and soda can irritate you. Then cut the bar soaps into large chunks with the help of knife. Grate those chunks with the help of a grater and blend them into a fine particles or make it a powdered form. In a large plastic tub or bucket, mix the washing soda, baking soda and soap powder. Thoroughly mix the powdered soap. Add 10-12 drops of essential oil into it. Essential oil can give a nice scent in detergent. You can use lemon essential oil, as lemon has the properties to remove stains from clothes. It is ready! Store it in a covered or air tight container. You can use 1-2 tablespoons per load in washing machine. If your powder has trouble in completely dissolving, then you can try mixing little amout of hot water into it. This can remove chunks of detergent while washing. You can also add a cup white vinegar while rinsing clothes for giving extra softness to the clothes.
This detergent relatively works as same as the market detergent. You can find no difference between the market detergent and this home made detergent powder.
