Many of us love rains. And ofcourse why would we not? After all, they come after a long sunny and humid weather and are so refreshing and relaxing for us. They also washes away the earth and makes nature green and brighter than before which is also very soothing for our eyes.
But do you know that monsoons can also harm your skin and health if proper precautions are not taken! If you do not take care of your proper hygiene and health, you can become ill and may be with lack of skin care during this time, your skin may catch several skin related issues like itching, infections, rashes, etc. That's why it is very important for all of us to take of our skin, take proper and healthy foods to maintain our stability and to take care of hygiene to stay free from diseases.
So, let us see how can we make our monsoon season really enjoyable and free from diseases and skin problems by following just few simple steps :-
During monsoons wash your hands frequently so that you do not catch bacterias and viruses by touching your unhygienic hands on face again and again. Also, whenever you go outside carry a hand sanitizer or an antiseptic soap with you. Again when you come indoors wash your hands thoroughly. This can reduce the risk of catching cold, flu or other infections that are caused by rain.
Try not to walk in sludge or mud that is filled with water as you may catch several infections in your feet through dirty rain water. In case if you do so because of some emergency, then soak and scrub your wet feet in an antiseptic liquid water to clean it completely and dry them well to avoid fungal infections.
Take a shower immediately if you get wet in rain. Getting wet in rains and keeping your wet cloths on body can make your body temperature high and you may catch several diseases like fever, cold, etc. A hot shower can be the best way to make your body temperature normal and get rid of germs that you may have picked up after getting wet. Also, do not forget to shampoo your hair properly because there are possibly chances of occurring lices in hairs due to rain water.
Uncooked or raw foods during monsoons are a matter to worry. If possible, avoid eating raw vegetables as they contain active bacteria and viruses, instead of that you can eat steamed salads. Pay attention whenever you eat raw fruits or vegetables during this time, specially green leafy vegetables because they are host to larvae, dust and other worms. The best way to eat raw fruits and green vegetables is to soak them in salt water for minimum 10 minutes so that all the germs and bacterias are taken away from them.
Drink boiled water or filtered water only in order to stay away from germ attack. Drink enough water to keep your body hydrated regardless of your physical activity. Because in rainy season, weather becomes wet and cold and many people think they are not thirsty enough to drink plenty of water. But remember to drink adequate amount of water during rainy season also...in order to keep you fit and hydrated. If you are preparing boiled water, it should be finished within 24 hours. You can also drink several herbal teas, green tea, lemon tea. They can help in refreshing you and can make your throat clean so that you cannot catch any infection.
Instead of drinking milk or tea several times a day, prefer to have curd or yoghurt as it has good bacterias in it that can keep away any bad bacteria that is entering in your body. The digestion process also become slower due to humid weather, so eating yoghurt also helps in digesting your food properly specially if you are eating heavy meals or fried foods. It can also help in absorbing nutrients and rebuilding your immunity. You can take yoghurt during breakfast or during your lunch time.
If possible, avoid eating too much fish and meats during monsoons as they take around 7 days to digest. Instead of that go for light meals specially at night because the digestion process slows down at night time. You can go for light-weight soups, stews which contains healthy ingredients that are good for your body or you can also go for some fruits that are rich in vitamins so that it becomes easy to digest for your body.
Avoid eating at road side stalls as they may contain various germ causing diseases. The food makers who prepares food for you may not stay sanitized from time to time that can also be unhygienic and the untensils they are using may have germs or bacterias in it. And due to rain, mostly every road is filled with water, so there can be a lot of chances of mosquitoes occuring around water that can also affect road side stalls and the food available there.
Wearing dark colored clothes can attract more bugs and mosquitoes in monsoons. Colors like black, deep red, dark blue or dark yellow can attract insects that may bite or harm you. So prefer wearing light colored clothes specially when you go outdoors so that you do not attract insects. Also, thicker fabrics that fits loosely can offer you more protection than thinner fabrics and tighter fits.
During rainy season, everywhere roads are filled with water. This can probably increase the chances of having mosquitoes and other insects in water that can be harmful for you. Dump out all the standing water near your home in order to not attract mosquitoes to your home. Use safe and effective mosquito repellent machine or apply mosquito repellent cream to your body whenever you step outdoors. Close your windows or use screens to cover your windows so that mosquitoes cannot enter your home. You can also use fine mosquito net to hang over your bed for staying free from mosquitoes and their life-threatening diseases.
Make sure you wash your face two or three times a day to keep your face clean and impurities free. Due to excessive humidity in this season, your face becomes oilier and attracts a lot of dust, dirt and sometimes unwanted breakouts. Anti-bacterial cleanser can work very effectively on this and can also avoid fungal infections. You can also use any good sunscreen daily in order to avoid any face problem. Also, don't forget to drink plenty of water to get rid of toxins in your body that may cause acne or pimples.
